VISION. AMBITION. PRAISE
I AM FASHION
I am fashion..... "Through prayer, persistence and passion I have been able to accomplish my goals!" To some individuals a trend is just a fad but to me it indicates change....color is just another hue but in my eyes it transcends emotion.....for some individuals cloth is just fabric but to me it creates movement....for some people fashion is obsolete but to me it's my LIFE! -Mikasa La'Charles
THE WONDER YEARS
Since the inquisitive and creative age of five, Mikasa La'Charles can clearly remember sitting at the kitchen counter of her NE Philly home sketching silhouettes of skirts, all while thinking to herself...'I wonder if I could do this as a job forever?" You can only imagine the excitement that entered into her heart when her mother lovingly said "yes, you can, they are called fashion designers!" From that moment forth, despite any challenge, disapproval or discouragement she has managed to continue to push forward her innate talent, to beautify the world.
Seeking a traditional education from a prestigious university, Mikasa attended a Public Ivy school, the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, VA to study Marketing at the Mason School of Business and Sociology full-time. While in college she studied in Europe for a year, living in major cities such as Florence, Milan & Paris. During this time, she was able to take up fashion business courses as well as enroll into Parsons Paris School of Art & Design Fashion Studies Program where Mikasa was successfully able to connect her experience and interest in fashion construction; and as a result her creativity has become boundless. Expressing her leadership at W&M, a few of her peers and she developed their campus' first fashion club, uniquely called, 'Cobble Stone Couture.' Within that same semester she and a few other students collectively organized William & Mary's first student designer fashion show case. This fashion show finally allowed her the chance to develop the confidence necessary in order to continue to prove to the world of her one of a kind talent!
Promptly after graduating from W&M in 2007 Mikasa La'Charles was able to secure an internship with the RP55 Group (which houses urban and celebrity brands such as A.K.O.O Clothing Brand and Play Cloths). Within five months of interning, a full-time position became available; and since that moment continuous opportunities have followed. She has lived in NYC working with contemporary fashion brands like Laundry by Shelli Segal. With years of fashion design knowledge as well as actual industry experience in various fields, she continues to gradually become the fashion mogul she is destined to be. Now her services for wardrobe consultation, designing and styling are becoming increasingly requested; and in November of 2010 she debuted her first full collection at VA Fashion Week; a year after winning the VAFW Emerging Designer Competition. The ML online boutique opened in January 2011 to offer fashion lovers unique and stylish clothing & accessories. In 2012, she was honored as one of the TOP 20 EMERGING FASHION DESIGNERS by Charleston Fashion Week along the East Coast, amongst over 300 applicants. She continues to showcase her pieces on many catwalks including New York Fashion Week, Charleston Fashion Week, Virginia Fashion Week and Knoxville Fashion Week.
HOUSE of VII Jewels is a company that Miss La'Charles created to collectively house the multiple fashion brands she has launched such as Mikasa La'Charles (women's contemporary clothing), Bridal Veil Bar (bridal veils & accessories), Sketching Dreams, Sew They're Possible (fashion design camp for female youth) and House of VII Jewels (couture luxuries for celebrities & socialites). She also offers wardrobe styling, image consultanting and sewing classes. With a daily, full schedule as an entrepreneur and single Mommy to her handsomely amazing Little Prince, Hunter (currently age five), Mikasa La’Charles continues to provide us with constant style while impressing our creative fashion imagination and soar beyond all realms of success....dreams do come true!
